The MONARCH corporation, as seen in Godzilla (2014), Kong: Skull Island (2017), and in the two upcoming movies Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) and Godzilla vs. Kong (2020), is a secret scientific corporation founded by American President Harry S. Truman to investigate the sinking of the USS Lawton by a giant creature — then designated a MUTO (Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organism).

MONARCH was involved in the first attempt to kill Godzilla, and subsequent coverups of future MUTO attacks, before their secrets were exposed by an individual calling themselves “MonsterLeaks” made them internationally infamous. The organization subsequently expanded, with at least 61 outposts around the globe. At this time, Monarch’s mission had changed from hunting and containing M.U.T.O.s to discovering and protecting ancient giant creatures designated Titans, which it believed were essential to the preservation of life on Earth.

The MONARCH logo is seen on secret documents, scientific equipment, uniforms, briefcases and computer console screens throughout several of the movies, and the logo is a cross between the ‘M’ for Monarch and a Monarch butterfly.
