The Vault-Tec corporation was contracted by the United States government to design and produce the vault system, a vast network of complex bomb and research shelters in the Fallout universe. Introduced in 1997 in the first Fallout game, it was a major military contractor before the Great War — a one-day nuclear dispute between the United States, China and the Soviet Union — and as such, developed highly experimental, advanced and secret technologies.
