The Shinra Electric Power Company, also known as Shinra Inc. (神羅カンパニー, Shinra Kanpanī?, lit. Shinra Company) and sometimes spelled Shin-Ra, is a multinational industrial enterprise in the world of Final Fantasy VII.

Shinra operates in genetic engineering, space exploration, and projects power through a military that includes the elite group SOLDIER, of which both Cloud Atlas and Sephiroth were members. Their military power, combined with commercial monopoly on energy, gives Shinra control over the populace of Gaia.

Originally founded as Shinra Manufacturing Works, they specialized in weapons manufacturing before discovering the planet’s life energy, the lifestream, and processing it into a form of energy known as “mako.”
